Five to seven nights can mean making the same journeys across Lisbon more than once. A room that looks convenient for one afternoon may be awkward as a week-long base. Start with the districts you expect to visit most, then check the route from the actual property door, the hills on the final walk and the full stay cost before you book.

Lisbon rewards wandering, but a hotel map alone can hide the effort of moving between districts. Decide whether you want to spend most mornings in the historic center, along the Tagus, near a rail connection for a day trip or in a quieter area away from the busiest visitor routes. The right answer depends on your pace, not a universal list of “best” hotels.
Portugal's official tourism guide frames the city through distinct areas including Baixa, Alfama, Chiado, Belém and Parque das Nações. Those names are useful starting points for a search, but check the precise address and route of each property.
Consider this zone if a first visit is centered on downtown sights and you want to make several stops on foot. It is a practical hub, but a property on a busy street can feel very different from one a few blocks away. Look at recent property details about stairs, noise and the nearest transport stop before deciding.
Choose this area if historic streets and atmosphere are part of the stay itself. It is not automatically the easiest base for luggage or limited mobility. Compare the route from your transport stop to the door and verify access details with the property if steps are a concern.
Belém makes sense when monuments and the waterfront are a major part of your visit. For a short trip focused mostly on central Lisbon, compare the extra time spent moving between Belém and other neighborhoods against the appeal of your chosen property.
If rail connections or an early onward journey shape the itinerary, being close to the transport you will use may be worth more than a postcard address. Check the exact station, service and first departure you need rather than assuming every central property is equally convenient.
Lisbon Airport says it has a metro station and connections into the city. That makes a metro-friendly property appealing for some travelers, but “near a station” is not the same as an easy journey with bags. Before booking, check any transfer, final walk, hills or late-night arrival. For a family or a mobility concern, a different transfer may be more comfortable even when the metro is convenient.
Lisbon's municipality publishes an overnight tourist tax with rules by guest age and length of stay. A tax may be collected at check-in or check-out and may appear separately from the room rate. Verify the amount and how it is shown for your dates on the booking page or with the property. Do not compare one stay's nightly headline against another stay's tax-inclusive total.

For a first visit spent mostly downtown, start the search around Baixa and Chiado. For the older-city experience, compare Alfama properties carefully on access.
