ROUTE DETAILS
Plan the route before travel day
Start with the address, then verify terminal details, ticket rules and live operating information with the official sources below.
Haneda Airport (HND)
Haneda's official access planner covers trains, monorail, buses and taxis from each terminal. Tokyo Monorail connects toward Hamamatsucho, while Keikyu services connect toward Shinagawa and through services beyond it. Neither name alone tells you which is easier. Compare the transfer from Hamamatsucho or Shinagawa to your accommodation, including the correct terminal station and luggage route.
Narita Airport (NRT)
Narita Airport identifies several rail families. Keisei Skyliner runs toward Nippori and Ueno with reserved seating and luggage space. JR Narita Express serves stations including Tokyo, Shinagawa, Shibuya and Shinjuku on relevant services. Other Keisei and JR trains can suit different budgets or destinations, while direct airport buses serve multiple districts and hotels.
Terminal 3 travelers should include the connection to the Terminal 2 and 3 rail station. A route that appears direct on a network map may still involve a terminal walk or a transfer at the city end.
When an airport bus may be easier
Narita Airport lists direct buses to Tokyo Station, Shinjuku, Shibuya and other areas. Haneda also provides an official route search for buses. A bus can reduce station changes when it stops near your hotel, but road traffic affects arrival time. Confirm the stop name, terminal, ticket process and luggage rules.
How to make the decision
Confirm these details before leaving the airport.
- Find the closest practical station to the accommodation, not merely the nearest point on the map.
- Compare total travel time including airport walks and the final transfer.
- Check whether a limited express requires both a base fare and a reserved-seat ticket.
- For large luggage, compare storage and transfer steps.
- Check the last useful service after allowing for immigration and baggage claim.
- Use the operator's current timetable and disruption page on the travel date.
Choose the Tokyo base around repeat journeys
Your airport route matters once; your neighborhood routes matter every day. Use the Tokyo stay guide to choose around the station you will reuse. Include airport transport in the total-stay cost guide, then visit flights and airport transfers and the travel tools hub.
