ROUTE DETAILS
Plan the route before travel day
Start with the address, then verify terminal details, ticket rules and live operating information with the official sources below.
Metro: useful for network connections
TMB states that L9 Sud serves Aeroport T1 and Aeroport T2 and connects with other metro lines at several stations. It does not run straight through the most familiar central sightseeing stops, so count the interchange and the walk at the destination. Airport stations have specific ticket validity rules. Some common tickets are not valid for an airport entry or exit, while certain travel passes include it. Check the current TMB list rather than relying on an old forum post.
Aerobús: a direct central corridor
Aena lists Aerobús A1 between T1 and Plaça Catalunya, and A2 between T2 and Plaça Catalunya. This can be simple for stays near its route or with an easy onward connection. Confirm the correct terminal service, the current stop pattern and where you will walk after leaving the bus.
Rodalies train: start at the right terminal
The R2 Nord airport rail branch serves the airport station at T2 and continues through major Barcelona rail stations. If you land at T1, include the airport's free inter-terminal shuttle in the plan. The train can be a good fit for accommodation near Sants or Passeig de Gràcia, but planned works can alter service, so check Rodalies close to travel.
Public bus, night bus or taxi
Aena also lists city bus 46 between both terminals and Plaça Espanya, plus night services with different terminal patterns. These can be useful outside metro hours or for a destination close to the route. A licensed taxi or app-based vehicle can reduce changes, but traffic affects time and the complete cost should be checked before committing.
Five details that prevent the wrong choice
Confirm these details before leaving the airport.
- Confirm whether you arrive at T1 or T2.
- Map the final address, not just Plaça Catalunya.
- Count any terminal shuttle and metro change.
- Check whether your ticket is valid at an airport metro station.
- Recheck overnight service or planned rail works before departure.
