BANGKOK PLANNING GUIDE
Bangkok attractions to group by river and rail
Keep the Grand Palace and riverside temples together, use the river deliberately, and give Ayutthaya its own day. A skyline booking is easier to plan when it stays near the BTS part of the itinerary.

START WITH THE EXPERIENCE
Choose a heritage, river, skyline or day-trip experience
Temple visits need dress and heat planning, river products use named piers, and Ayutthaya is a separate day rather than an extra stop.
Grand Palace
Royal and sacred architecture require official access, respectful dress and time.
Wat Pho
A separate temple admission beside the Palace with its own visit and conduct rules.
Wat Arun
Pair the west-bank temple with a deliberate river crossing and return plan.
River experience
Distinguish public transport, sightseeing and dining products before booking.
Mahanakhon SkyWalk
Keep the skyline visit with Silom or Sathorn and check outdoor weather rules.
Ayutthaya
Compare a full day trip by transport, admissions, heat exposure and return point.
Compare the old city and onward experiences
A useful product description names every admission, pier, meeting point, guide language and end point.
| Experience | Area | Useful when | Check before paying |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew | Rattanakosin | Royal and sacred architecture are the main focus | Official access, ticket scope, dress and ceremonial changes |
| Wat Pho | Beside the Grand Palace | The reclining Buddha and temple complex matter | Separate admission, respectful dress and any massage booking |
| Wat Arun | West bank of the Chao Phraya | You want a river crossing and temple visit | Ferry route, temple access, dress and steep sections |
| Mahanakhon SkyWalk | Silom and Sathorn | The day already uses BTS and the skyline matters | Selected access, glass-floor rules and weather policy |
| Ayutthaya | Outside Bangkok | Historic temples justify most of a day | Pickup, transport, admissions, guide, lunch and return |
Build one old-city block
The Grand Palace and Wat Pho are close but separate.
Give each site its own time, security and respectful dress. Check current Palace notices before travel because ceremonies can affect access.
Carry clothing that meets temple rules instead of relying on a last-minute purchase at the entrance.
Use the river with named piers
A river cruise is not automatically a temple transfer.
For Wat Arun, map the ferry or boat leg and the return. A sightseeing or dining product should name its pier, boarding time, route and end point.
Do not assume a boat lands at every temple it passes.
Keep the skyline with BTS districts
Mahanakhon sits by BTS Chong Nonsi.
Check indoor and outdoor access, loose-item rules, last admission and the operator weather policy. It fits a Silom or Sathorn day better than a tight old-city schedule.
Outdoor features can close without changing every part of the attraction.

Give Ayutthaya most of a day
The historical park is outside Bangkok.
Compare independent travel with a guided trip by pickup area, transport, admissions, guide language, lunch and return point.
Some products combine road and river travel. Avoid an inflexible Bangkok booking soon after the planned return.

A booking checklist that protects the day
Confirm the details that affect entry, timing and the rest of the route.
- Confirm every temple admission and the exact meeting or pickup point.
- Check current dress rules and plan suitable clothing before arrival.
- Map named piers and distinguish public boats from sightseeing cruises.
- Review outdoor weather rules for skyline products.
- For Ayutthaya, check transport, admissions, lunch, guide language and return point.
- Save tickets offline and read late-arrival, change and cancellation terms.
PLAN YOUR STAY
Match your Bangkok hotel to the transport you will use
A BTS- or MRT-connected base can simplify most city days; a riverside stay changes the route and pace. Check the exact map pin, room type and cancellation terms.
