NEW YORK PLANNING GUIDE
New York attractions worth booking
Choose by the experience, neighborhood and time available. One well-placed reservation usually adds more to a day than a long list of disconnected tickets.

START WITH THE EXPERIENCE
Pick a category before you pick a ticket
Decide whether the priority is a skyline view, landmark, museum, reflective historical visit or time outdoors. Then build the rest of the day in the same part of the city.
Skyline view
Empire State Building, Top of the Rock, One World Observatory and SUMMIT One Vanderbilt offer different locations and styles. Most short visits need one deck, not all four.
Harbor landmark
The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island use an official ferry service. A harbor cruise is a different experience and may not land on either island.
Art and design
The Metropolitan Museum of Art can fill much of a day. MoMA is easier to combine with Midtown. Choose according to the collection and route.
History and remembrance
The 9/11 Memorial is outdoors, while the museum is a separate ticketed experience. Leave enough time and avoid treating it as a quick photo stop.
Free outdoor time
Central Park works best with a specific entrance and short route. Pair it with one side of the park instead of trying to cover the whole space.
Neighborhood day
Many memorable New York experiences are streets, parks and public spaces. Leave room for a neighborhood rather than filling every hour with tickets.

Which observation deck fits your day?
The best deck is usually the one that fits the route and the view you care about. Check current entry, accessibility and weather policies before reserving.
| Attraction | Area | Useful when | Plan for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Empire State Building | Midtown South | You want the classic landmark itself and open-air observatory access | A timed visit and security screening |
| Top of the Rock | Rockefeller Center | You want a central view that includes the Empire State Building | Combining the slot with Midtown sights |
| One World Observatory | Lower Manhattan | The day already includes the World Trade Center area | An indoor observatory experience |
| SUMMIT One Vanderbilt | Grand Central | You want an immersive reflective experience as well as a view | Clothing, footwear and personal-item guidance |

Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island
Know whether the ticket includes a ferry landing, museum access or only a view from the water.
Statue City Cruises is the concessioner authorized to provide ferry transportation to Liberty Island and Ellis Island from New York and New Jersey departure points. Ticket categories differ, so read what is included before choosing a time. Crown and pedestal access, when offered, are distinct from a basic ferry ticket.
If the goal is a skyline cruise rather than an island visit, compare a harbor cruise separately. Do not assume the words Statue of Liberty mean the boat will land there.
9/11 Memorial and Museum
Plan a respectful visit and distinguish the outdoor memorial from the museum.
The memorial plaza and museum have different entry arrangements. Check current hours, security guidance and prohibited items. The subject can be emotionally demanding, so avoid placing a tightly timed entertainment booking immediately afterward.
The Met or MoMA
Choose the collection and location that support the day you want.
The Met sits beside Central Park and can reward several hours of selective exploration. Pick a few departments rather than attempting the whole museum. MoMA is in Midtown and can fit a day around Rockefeller Center, Fifth Avenue or nearby theater plans. Review admission, bag and entry guidance before visiting.
Central Park with a useful route
Enter with a destination and leave from the side that fits the next stop.
Central Park stretches through many neighborhoods and is not one compact attraction. Use the official map to choose two or three places, then check the exit nearest the next plan. Pair the park with The Met on the east side, the American Museum of Natural History on the west side or Columbus Circle to the south-west.

A booking checklist that protects the day
Tickets work best when they leave enough time for transport, security and the neighborhood around the attraction.
- Confirm the exact attraction, address and entrance.
- Check whether the time is fixed, flexible or only a redemption slot.
- Read what the ticket includes and whether another reservation is required.
- Allow for security, queues and travel from the previous stop.
- Review cancellation, late-arrival and weather terms.
- Keep the confirmation offline and bring any required ID.
PLAN YOUR STAY
Choose a New York base that fits your route
Midtown keeps many first-trip sights and subway lines close, while Lower Manhattan or Brooklyn can suit a more local itinerary. Compare the map, room details, cancellation terms and full stay total for your dates.

Let geography shape the itinerary
Group Lower Manhattan sights together, keep Midtown reservations near a Midtown day and pair Central Park with one side of the park. The New York stay guide helps match a base to the places you will visit. For arrival day, compare JFK, LaGuardia and Newark routes, then use the full-stay cost checklist.
