THE SHORT ANSWER

A direct rail journey between two city centers

Eurostar runs from London St Pancras International to Paris Gare du Nord. The fastest scheduled journeys can take as little as 2 hours 16 minutes, but the useful comparison includes your trip to St Pancras, the required pre-departure process and the onward journey from Gare du Nord.

Departure

London St Pancras International. Ticket checks, security screening and border controls take place before boarding.

Arrival

Paris Gare du Nord. Continue by Metro, RER, bus, taxi or on foot according to the accommodation address.

Time difference

Paris is one hour ahead of London. Timetables use local time at each station, so compare the stated arrival time.

Is the train the right choice for this trip?

Compare the complete door-to-door journey. The train is often attractive for central stays, while a flight may still suit a distant origin, a connection or a fare that better fits the trip.

01

Arrive for an international departure

This is not a normal turn-up-and-board UK rail journey.

Follow signs for Eurostar departures. The sequence includes ticket checks, security screening and passport control before the waiting area. Eurostar currently advises Standard and Plus passengers to arrive 75 minutes before departure and Premier passengers 45 minutes before departure. Gates close before the train leaves. Follow the time shown for the specific ticket because guidance can vary.

Allow a separate buffer for travel across London. A delayed Underground or suburban service matters when the international gate has a closing time.

02

Check passports and entry rules

Border formalities are handled in London before departure.

Carry the required passport or travel document and check the latest UK, French and Schengen-area rules for every passenger. Document validity, visa requirements and electronic travel processes can change. Keep the ticket and travel documents accessible until the checks are complete.

03

Choose luggage you can manage

The allowance helps only when every item fits the rule and can be carried through both stations.

Eurostar's current Standard adult allowance is two pieces up to 85 cm at their longest point, plus one small hand item. Different rules can apply to children, special items and other tickets. Recheck the allowance attached to the booking. Lighter luggage can make the Paris Metro and station changes much easier.

04

Plan the final Paris connection

Gare du Nord is central, but it is not the last stop for every traveler.

Map the accommodation before selecting the train. Check the relevant Metro, RER or bus route, whether an interchange is manageable with luggage and whether you will arrive during normal service hours. If continuing on another train, leave a realistic connection window. Separate tickets may not protect a missed onward service.
